Christmas gifts for the men on your list. Knives work well as presents because they are useful without being generic, and Damascus steel makes each one visually distinct — the layered pattern is different on every blade. The range covers EDC folders, hunting fixed blades, kitchen sets, butterfly trainers and swords, so you can match the gift to the person rather than settling. Engraving adds a name or a date and turns a knife into something kept rather than replaced. Christmas orders get busy from late November, so order early if you need engraving or want it to arrive before the day.
The dates that actually matter
Every shop publishes a shipping cutoff. The one that catches people out is the engraving cutoff, which sits roughly two weeks earlier, because a personalised blade is engraved in our own shop before it is finished and boxed.
| What you are ordering | Order by |
|---|---|
| Stock knife, no engraving | Around 18 December |
| Engraved knife | Around 4 December |
| Engraved set of four or more | Around 25 November |
| Engraved sword | Late November |
| Custom build to your spec | Early November |
Past those dates we will tell you straight rather than take the order and hope. Full detail, and what to buy for whom, is in the Christmas knife gift guide.
Pick by his week, not by the photograph
The knife that photographs best is rarely the one that gets carried. A man who commutes will use a three inch folder every day and admire an eight inch bowie exactly once. Buy for the life he actually has: folder for daily carry, fixed blade for hunting, chef knife for the cook, 440C stainless for anyone who works near water, premium limited edition for the collector who would never spend it on himself.
Christmas questions
Is a knife a good Christmas gift? For anyone who carries, cooks, hunts or camps, yes, and it is one of the few Christmas presents still in weekly use ten years later.
Are knives bad luck to give at Christmas? The old superstition says a blade cuts the bond. The traditional fix is that the recipient hands back a coin so the knife counts as bought. Tape a penny to the box.
When is the last day to order an engraved knife for Christmas? Around 4 December for one piece, around 25 November for a set of four or more. Stock knives run to roughly 18 December.
What should I engrave? A name, initials or a year. Twenty characters maximum, and shorter reads better on steel.
Can I order the same knife with different names for several people? Yes, and it is one of our commonest December orders. Cut together so the lettering matches. Bulk pricing from four upward.
Does it arrive gift ready? Presentation box as standard, hand-stitched leather sheath with every fixed blade, and care instructions in the box.

The Christmas ordering calendar
December is the only month where the deadline matters more than the choice, so here it is plainly. Engraving adds around two weeks because we send a proof and wait for you to approve it. Unengraved knives in stock ship in two to three business days.
| If you want | Order by |
|---|---|
| An engraved knife under the tree | End of the first week of December |
| An unengraved knife in stock | Around the middle of December, allowing for carrier delays |
| A set for a whole family or office | Mid November. Tell us the quantity and the date first. |
| A custom build | October. These are made from scratch and cannot be rushed. |
If you are later than any of those, send us the date rather than the deadline you are hoping for, and we will tell you straight away whether it can be met instead of promising and hoping.
Choosing without asking him
Christmas is a surprise, so you cannot ask. Three rules that work. Go smaller than you think, because a three inch folder gets carried and a large bowie gets shelved. Choose stainless if his hands are ever wet, because carbon Damascus punishes neglect. And if he already owns knives, buy the category he has skipped rather than a bigger version of what he has, which almost always means a kitchen knife.
When is the last day to order a Christmas knife gift? The end of the first week of December for anything engraved, and around the middle of December for an unengraved knife in stock. Custom builds need to start in October.
What is the best Christmas knife gift for him? A three to three and a half inch folding pocket knife with his initials on it. It is the one knife almost every man will actually carry.
Can you engrave in time for Christmas? Yes, if the order is in by the first week of December. Engraving takes around two weeks including proof approval, and December is our busiest engraving month.
Is a Damascus knife a good Christmas gift? If he will wipe it dry and oil it occasionally, it is the finest blade we make. If he will not, buy 440C or D2 instead and nothing bad will happen.
Do you do gift sets for a whole family or office? Yes, from four pieces upward we quote the set rather than the individual knives, and each piece can be engraved differently. Order by mid November.
