Description
Cinnabar Rain is named for the two things you notice first: the deep cinnabar red of the rosewood and the raindrop pattern standing in the steel. Raindrop Damascus is made by drilling dimples into the billet before the final forging, so when the blade is etched the layers ring outward in soft, overlapping circles like rain landing on still water. Against a brass bolster and rosewood scales with green-centred mosaic pins, it is the most decorative bull cutter we build.
Decorative, but not delicate. The grind is a working cowboy bull cutter — a deep, square-nosed sheepsfoot with a full 3.5 inch straight edge, a blunt tip that will not dive, and a notched choil for choking up close.

Built for: ranch and stock work, cutting twine, hide and feed sacks, hunting camp and everyday belt carry — and for display, because a raindrop Damascus blade over figured rosewood is a knife people pick up. A strong choice as a wedding, retirement or milestone gift.
Care: Damascus is a high-carbon steel and will spot or patina if it is put away wet. Wipe the blade dry after every use and keep a light film of mineral or camellia oil on it — this also keeps the etched raindrop pattern crisp. Rosewood is a dense, oily natural wood: wipe it clean and rub in a little wood wax or oil once or twice a year. The brass will darken to a warm patina; polish it if you prefer it bright. Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath long term.
FAQs
What is raindrop Damascus?
The smith drills or presses shallow dimples into the forge-welded billet, then forges it flat again. That cuts through the layers at each dimple, so when the finished blade is etched the pattern appears as soft concentric rings scattered down the flat — like raindrops on water. It is a distinct pattern from twist or ladder Damascus and it is made a blade at a time.
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
No. Every Damascus billet etches differently and rosewood varies from orange-red to deep chocolate with its own dark striping. Your Cinnabar Rain will share the shape, dimensions and build shown, but the steel pattern and the wood figure will be its own.
Is rosewood a good handle material?
Excellent. Rosewood is dense and naturally oily, so it is stable, hard wearing and resists moisture better than most timbers, and it takes a deep natural polish without any coating.
Is the leather sheath included?
Yes. Every Cinnabar Rain ships with a handmade leather belt sheath fitted to the knife, at no extra cost.
Can I actually use a Damascus knife, or is it for show?
Use it. Damascus is functional steel — the pattern comes from forge-welding different steels together, and the finished blade is hardened, ground and sharpened like any other. It simply asks to be kept dry and lightly oiled.
