Assembled for: hunters who do most of their work close in. Three and a half inches of blade is short for a hunting knife on purpose, because caping and skinning are done with the first inch behind the tip and everything beyond that is just length you have to steer.
Short blade, long handle
Look at the proportions: four and a half inches of handle behind three and a half inches of blade. That is deliberate and it is unusual. A full grip means you can choke back and use the whole hand for a long pulling cut, or choke forward onto the ricasso for the delicate work around a joint. Fatigue drops noticeably compared with a knife that makes you pinch. The cost is that this is a poor camp knife. It will not baton, it will not chop, and it is not long enough to reach through a large animal in one pass. Bring something bigger if that is your day.
440C in the field
440C is the right steel for wet, bloody work. It is properly stainless, so it tolerates being wiped rather than oiled, and it hardens well enough to hold a functional edge through a whole animal. Against harder tool steels it gives up some edge retention and gains a great deal in ease of sharpening, which is the trade most hunters actually want at the end of a long day. Handle and sheath
The scales are figured hardwood, stabilized and pinned with mosaic pins, and the exposed steel pommel gives you something to press against and something that will survive being used as a light hammer. Wood plus stainless means the whole knife can be washed under a tap and dried, which matters more than any other care instruction here. Do not store it in the leather sheath long term.
