The Steve Layton collection gathers knives built in the style that made Layton-pattern fixed blades collectible – clean symmetrical grinds, generous finger guards, and handle-to-blade proportions that make a large knife feel balanced in the hand. Black Mamba forges each one from folded high-carbon Damascus, full tang, with fitted bolsters and hand-shaped scales in stag antler, buffalo horn, exotic hardwood and coloured resin. The collection is small by design; these are bench pieces, not a production line.
What defines a Layton-style knife. Deliberate geometry – a distinct drop or clip point, a swept guard, and a handle that fills the palm without hot spots. The result photographs like a collector piece but performs like a field knife.
Are these usable knives or display pieces? Fully usable. Heat treated to 58-60 HRC and ground to a working edge, they will dress game or run through camp chores without complaint.
How large are they? Most run 9 to 14 inches overall with 5 to 8 inch blades. Exact dimensions and weight are listed on each product page.
What is included? A hand-stitched leather sheath fitted to that individual knife, plus a certificate of authenticity and care instructions for high-carbon Damascus.
Can I request a variation? Yes. Handle material, blade length and engraving can all be specified on a commission – contact sales before ordering and we will quote the build.
