The 250th Anniversary collection marks America’s semiquincentennial with a small run of hand-forged Damascus knives built around the theme – patriotic handle materials, engraved bolsters, red-white-and-blue resin and stabilised wood, and commemorative sheath tooling. Every piece is forged the way the rest of our catalogue is: folded high-carbon Damascus, hand-hammered to 200 or more layers, ground and heat treated to 58-60 HRC, then acid etched so the pattern stands out beneath the commemorative finish work.
What is the 250th anniversary? July 4, 2026 marked 250 years since the Declaration of Independence – the United States Semiquincentennial. These knives were forged for it.
Is this a limited run? Yes. The collection is deliberately small and will not be reforged once the pieces sell; the Damascus billets were made specifically for this run.
Are they usable knives? Fully. Nothing about the commemorative finish changes the heat treat or the edge geometry – these will hunt, camp and cut like any other Black Mamba blade.

A small run, made for one date
The United States turned 250 on July 4, 2026, and this collection was forged to mark it. There are three knives in it, all fixed blade hunters, all with buffalo horn scales and engraved bolsters finished in gold. We kept the run small on purpose. A commemorative piece is only worth keeping if it stays scarce, and a shop that reforges its anniversary knife every time it sells out is really just selling a knife with a date on it.
Under the decoration each one is a working blade. The steel is 1095 and 15N20 pattern welded Damascus, oil tempered to 58 to 60 HRC, which is the same hardness as the knives in our hunting knives collection. So the edge is real. Whether you ever use it is between you and your conscience.

All three share the same steel, the same hardness and a hand stitched leather sheath. Where they differ is how loudly they announce the occasion. The Prairie Monarch says it in words on the blade. The other two say it through the fittings and leave the rest to whoever is holding them.

People buying for a milestone. A retirement after a long career, a veteran in the family, a father who has everything and says so often, a July 4 birthday that deserves more than a card. If the person on the receiving end hunts every season and wants something to take into the field, these are the wrong pick and a plain Damascus hunter will serve him better. If the knife is going to sit on a shelf and get pointed at whenever guests come round, you are in the right place.
They also suit collectors who keep dated pieces. An anniversary knife earns its keep over time, not on the day it is opened, and the ones that hold up are the ones built on a real blade rather than a stamped souvenir.
Gold, horn and what to expect over time
Gold plating is a surface layer measured in microns. On a knife that lives in its case it lasts for decades. On a knife that gets carried it wears first at the bolster edges and wherever a thumb rests, and it cannot be touched up at home. Neither outcome is a fault. It is simply what plating does, so decide early whether this one is for display or for use.
Buffalo horn takes a deep polish and no two sets of scales look alike. It dislikes direct sunlight and very dry air, so keep it away from sunny windows and radiators and give it a thin coat of neutral wax once a year. The Damascus blade underneath is high carbon steel and will rust if it is stored damp. Wipe it after handling, keep it dry, and never take metal polish near the engraved flats, because the compound packs into the cuts and dries pale. The commemorative engraving on the Prairie Monarch comes from the workshop. Personal engraving, such as a name, a date or a unit, is a separate paid option added per knife at checkout. The Damascus billets were made for this run, and we do not plan to reforge these pieces once they sell. That is the point of a commemorative run.
Can I actually hunt with one?
Yes. The edge geometry and heat treatment match our working hunters. Expect the gold on the fittings to wear with use, and treat that as the price of carrying a display piece into the woods.
Which one works best as a retirement or veteran gift?
The Prairie Monarch reads most clearly as a commemorative piece because its engraving names the anniversary, and it arrives in a fitted case. The Regal Buffalo and Gilded Bison are quieter and suit someone who prefers the detail to be noticed rather than announced.

How do I keep the horn scales from cracking?
Keep the knife away from heat and direct sun, and wax the horn once a year. Fine surface checks come from very dry rooms, and a little wax prevents nearly all of them.
