Some people know exactly what they want and there is no list on earth that has it. Design it yourself instead.
The designer below does the drawing for you. Pick the shape closest to what is in your head, then move the sliders until the blade, the handle, the guard and the butt are right. Every measurement updates while you work, in inches, so what reaches the bench is a specification and not a guess. If something still needs saying, write it straight on the drawing.
A $50 review deposit puts it in front of a bladesmith. It comes off the price of the build if you go ahead, and it is refunded in full if we cannot agree on a price or the design will not hold up in steel.
What happens after you send it
- Mark reads itA person, not a form. If something in the design is unclear we ask rather than guess.
- You get a straight answerWithin two working days: a price, a lead time, and if part of it will not hold up in steel, we say which part and what we would do instead.
- The deposit comes off or comes backGo ahead and the $50 comes off the price of the knife. Change your mind, or let us tell you it cannot be forged honestly, and it is refunded in full.
- Then we make itTwo to three weeks at the bench, and a photo of the finished knife before it ships.
Things worth setting carefully
The four that change a quote most: overall length, blade length, how wide the blade is, and where the tip sits. All four sit above the drawing and update as you move the sliders. Steel and handle material are in step three, and if you do not know yet, leave them and say so in the notes.
If you are copying a knife you already own or have seen, say so in the notes. It is far easier to match something real than to interpret a drawing from scratch, and we would rather get it right.
Or start from a shape we already make
If your idea is close to something standard, the configurators are quicker and give you a live price instead of a wait:
Questions people ask first
Do I have to be able to draw?
No. The designer does the drawing. You pick a starting shape and move sliders, so if you can describe the knife in words you can build it here.
What is the $50 for?
Time at the bench. Someone reads your design, works out what stock thickness the profile needs, checks the tang will survive the handle you have asked for, and prices it properly. It comes off the build if you go ahead, and it is refunded in full if you change your mind or we cannot forge it honestly.
What does a one-off cost compared with the configurator?
Usually within thirty or forty dollars of the equivalent build, because the work is the same either way. What pushes a price up is an unusual grind, a material we have to source, or a shape that needs a new jig. We tell you which of those applies before you commit.
Can I send a photo instead?
Yes. The upload block at the top of this page takes photos, screenshots and PDFs, and runs on the same deposit.
Will you copy another maker’s knife exactly?
No. We will build something in the same spirit, at the same size, with the features you actually want, and it will be ours. Cloning another maker’s work is not something we do.
Is there a minimum order?
One. Ten or more and it becomes a workshop run, which is priced differently and usually cheaper per knife. Say so in the notes and we will quote it that way.
What happens to my design?
It goes to the bench and nowhere else. We do not publish customer designs or use them for anything but your knife.
Useful while you design: blade shapes explained, the parts of a knife, handle materials, how the steels compare and choosing a sheath.
