These are our balisongs with a forged Damascus blade, which is the version most people picture when they picture a butterfly knife with a pattern on it. The pattern is not printed or acid-stamped on. Two alloys are stacked, forge-welded and folded so they etch to different depths, which is why the figure runs through the steel rather than sitting on it. Sharpen one of these for twenty years and the pattern is still there.Every piece is a working balisong, not a display item: full tang through both handles, pinned pivots, and latch tolerances set by hand so the bite handle closes without slop. Blades run 4 to 5 inches with an 8 to 10 inch overall length. Handle materials include buffalo horn, ram horn, rose wood, brass and G10. Steel is our own 1095 and 15n20 Damascus at 58 to 60 HRC.If you want a trainer or a plain stainless flipper instead, the wider balisong and butterfly knife collection covers those.Questions we get about Damascus balisongs

Showing 1–36 of 49 resultsSorted by popularity

Does the Damascus pattern wear off with flipping? No. The pattern is the structure of the steel itself, not a coating. Flipping wears the handles and the latch long before it touches the blade figure. What can fade is the etch contrast on the flats, and that is brought back with a light re-etch.Is Damascus a good steel for a balisong specifically? For carry and collecting, yes. Our 1095 and 15n20 mix holds an edge well and is easy to bring back on a stone. For hard daily flipping practice, most people prefer a cheaper trainer and keep the Damascus piece for carry. Can I get one engraved?Yes, up to 20 characters for a flat 29 dollar fee, on the blade or the handle. Engraved knives cannot be returned, so read your text twice before checkout. Are balisongs legal where I live?Several US states and a number of countries restrict them. The law changes, and it is the buyer who is responsible for it, so please check the rules where you live before ordering. A damascus butterfly knife from Black Mamba is the real thing: layered steel, hand-forged, etched so the figure runs through the blade. Whether you call it a damascus balisong or a damascus steel butterfly knife, every damascus steel balisong on this page is a working knife, American made and built to be flipped, carried and collected. Call it a butterfly knife damascus steel collectors trade, or a damascus balisong – it comes off the same forge.
