Bought by: people buying a display knife that still has to work when it comes off the shelf. The engraving runs the full length of both handles, so it reads from across a room rather than only up close.
The engraving and the copper
Copper is soft enough to cut cleanly under a graver, which is why it carries detail that would tear out of harder metal. It arrives bright and does not stay that way. Copper goes rose, then brown, then something close to bronze, and the cut lines darken first because that is where the tool left the deepest surface. Most owners let it happen. Brass was chosen for the bolsters because it is harder and sits at the ends of the handles, where a balisong takes every knock it ever gets.
What 352 layers actually does
Two steels, 1095 and 15N20, are welded together, drawn out, folded and welded again until the count reaches 352. The nickel in the 15N20 resists the acid at the end, so it stays bright while the 1095 goes dark. That contrast is the pattern. It runs through the whole thickness of the blade rather than sitting on the surface, which is the difference between this and an etched print. Look along the ground bevel: the figure carries on into the edge instead of stopping at a line.
Weight and swing
At 7.23 oz this is not a light knife, and the mass sits in the handles rather than the blade. Handles that heavy carry their own momentum, so the knife wants to keep turning once you start it. Flippers used to a light trainer will need a session to recalibrate, and the first few aerials will overshoot. After that the extra weight is what makes the action feel deliberate instead of twitchy.
Looking after it
The blade is high carbon and it will corrode if given the chance. Dry it once you have finished, then wipe it over with a rag that has a little oil worked into it, and keep the knife somewhere with air around it rather than shut inside a case. For the copper and brass, polish and a cloth is the whole method, and you only reach for it when the color has gone further than you like.

Is there a plainer version? Yes. The undecorated D2 balisong costs a fraction of this and flips just as well.
Will the copper wear through? No. The panels are solid stock, not plating, so the color shifts but nothing wears off.
