Brass and stag on a flipper
The handles pair brass fittings with stag antler scales, which is the traditional Filipino combination and also a functional one. Brass is dense, so it puts weight where a balisong wants it, out at the ends of the handles. Stag gives grip that stays usable when your hands are damp. Both are soft compared to steel, which means this handle will mark — brass takes fingerprints and stag scuffs. That is the material behaving normally, not a fault.
Weight and where it sits
At 5.6 ounces on a 6.2 inch knife with 3.2 inch handles, this is a heavy balisong for its size. Heavy handles swing slower and more predictably than light ones. Pins, latch and pattern
The handles pivot on pins and there is a latch at the end to hold it closed. The pattern on the blade is raindrop: concentric rings and ovals rather than the wavy lines of a twist pattern, produced by drilling or dimpling the billet before the final forging so the layers dome upward around each mark. It reads clearly at arm’s length, which is unusual. Care: this is high-carbon Damascus, and skin contact alone is enough to start a mark. Wipe it down after every session and leave a trace of light oil across the flats. A drop in each pivot keeps the swing even; too much attracts pocket lint. Brass will darken to a warm patina, and you can leave it or bring it back with a soft cloth. Keep the stag out of long soaks and off hot surfaces.
