Aimed at: flippers who have outgrown a trainer and want something with weight and history in it. At 7.23 oz over an 8 inch frame this is a heavy balisong by modern standards, and heavy is what makes a slow, deliberate rollover feel controlled instead of twitchy.

What the mass does to the flip

Momentum is the whole argument here. A light aluminum channel balisong changes direction fast and forgives sloppy timing; 7.23 oz does neither. It swings on its own schedule, so a clean aerial has to be timed rather than muscled, and once you find the rhythm the handles land in the palm with a solid report rather than a rattle. Beginners find that punishing. People who already flip find it satisfying, for the same reason. Our guide to balisong construction explains why frame weight and pivot type change the feel more than blade shape does.

The blade profile

The 3.5 inch blade is a long slender spear point with a ground swedge running most of its length, and that shape is why the pattern reads so clearly — there is a lot of uninterrupted flat to look at. The needle tip is good for piercing and terrible for prying, and it is what finds the floor first if you drop a rollover. Learn new tricks over a rug.

Copper, and how it changes

Copper does not stay bright. Left alone it darkens through gold into a deep brown, and the engraved recesses go darkest first, which sharpens the design rather than muddying it. If you like the new-penny look, a wipe with a copper polish restores it in seconds; if you like patina, do nothing and it arrives in a few months. Either choice is correct. The brass pins age at a different rate to the copper, so expect the two metals to drift apart in tone over the first year.

Care that suits it

Damascus is high in carbon, so this blade needs drying and a trace of oil after handling — sweaty palms are the main enemy of a knife that lives in your hands. Put one drop of light oil on each pivot every few weeks and work it in by flipping; that is the whole routine for the action. Never soak this knife. Water sits in the pivot channel and behind the pins, and getting it out again is far harder than keeping it out. Check the pivot screws for slack after long sessions and snug them by feel, not by force. For a lighter, plainer alternative in the same style, the BMK-2003 with a buffalo horn handle is calmer in the hand.

Questions buyers ask

Can I learn to flip on this? You can, but it will hurt. Start on a trainer, then bring the skills here. Our beginner trick guide starts at the basic opening.

Are the handles the same on both sides? Yes, both handles carry engraved copper and matching pin work, so the knife balances symmetrically closed.

Does the latch hold in the pocket? It does, but a balisong of this weight is a display and hobby piece rather than a pocket carry.
