Handle Damascus Balisong Butterfly Knife with Ram Horn and Beautiful Brass Handle

Fits: a watch pocket, a coin pocket, or a hand too small to be comfortable on a nine inch flipper. Closed it is roughly the length of a thumb, and it disappears into a pocket in a way a full-size balisong never will.

Care: small parts and a carbon steel blade, so this needs slightly more attention than its bigger siblings rather than less. Use a pin or a cocktail stick to get oil into the pivots, because they are too small for a dropper to reach cleanly. Dry the blade properly; on a knife this size a rust spot covers a meaningful fraction of the flat. Ram horn on small inserts is thinner than on a full handle and is more easily chipped at the corners, so avoid dropping it onto tile. A single drop of oil is enough for the whole knife.

What you gain and lose at this size

You gain genuine pocketability and a knife that suits smaller hands properly, which is not a small thing given how many balisongs are built around one hand size. You lose momentum. A light short balisong does not carry itself through a rollover the way a heavy one does, so tricks need more input from your wrist and mistakes are corrected less forgivingly by physics. Experienced flippers coming down from a full-size knife usually find the first hour frustrating. Choosing a knife for smaller hands goes into what actually matters dimensionally.

A forged blade on a small knife

Pattern welding a blade this short is harder than it sounds, because the layers have to stay legible at a scale where there is very little surface to show them. The ladder figure on this one is deliberately open for that reason: a tight pattern would read as grey mush at two inches. What a layer count actually means is useful context, since a higher number is not automatically better and on a small blade it is often worse.

Who it suits

Collectors who want the forged steel in an unusual format, people with smaller hands, and anyone who wants something genuinely carryable. It suits heavy trick flipping least. For the same pattern-welded steel with enough weight and length to flip properly, a full-size Damascus balisong is the better tool for that job, and many owners end up with both.

Size questions

How long is the blade? The specification gives the overall length and the handle length rather than a blade figure. Work from those two numbers, and ask us if you need it exactly.

Is it a toy? Not at all. It ships with a cutting edge and behaves like a working knife at reduced scale.

Can adults with large hands use it? You can flip it, but the handles will not fill your palm and the latch is fiddly. Try a larger model first if your hands are big.
