Description
Lariat Rose is the one that looks like it has always been on the hat rack. A D2 blade in a quiet matte satin, a solid brass bolster, and rosewood scales the colour of a saddle that has seen ten summers, with a single red fiber line where the wood meets the tang. Nothing on it is loud, and everything on it is meant to last.
The grind is the working cowboy bull cutter shape: a deep, square-nosed sheepsfoot with a full 3.5 inch straight edge, a blunt tip that will not dive when you cut against hide, rope or sacking, and a notched choil so you can choke right up to the blade for close work.

Built for: livestock and ranch work, cutting twine, hide and feed sacks, hunting and camp chores, kitchen and carving work, and everyday belt carry. The brass and rosewood also make it an easy gift — it is the bull cutter that looks right in anyone’s hand.
Care: D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel — very rust resistant, but not rust proof. Wipe the blade dry after use and give it a light film of oil before long storage. Rosewood is dense and naturally oily: wipe it clean and rub in a little wood wax or oil once or twice a year. The brass will darken to a warm patina over time; polish it with brass cleaner if you prefer it bright. Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath long term.
FAQs
What is a cowboy bull cutter used for?
It is a cattleman’s utility knife. The square, blunt sheepsfoot nose lets you bear down against hide, rope or a feed sack with no risk of the tip going somewhere it should not. Ranch hands have carried the pattern for generations, and it has since become one of the most useful all-round belt knives you can own.
How good is D2 for a working knife?
Very good. D2 runs around 58–60 HRC and holds a working edge considerably longer than the stainless most utility knives use. It takes a little more effort to re-sharpen and it prefers to be kept dry, but for a knife used every day the edge retention is worth it.
Is rosewood a good handle material?
Excellent. Rosewood is dense and naturally oily, so it is stable, hard wearing and resists moisture better than most timbers, and it takes a deep natural polish without any coating.
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
Close, but not identical. Rosewood is a natural wood and varies from orange-red to deep chocolate with its own dark striping, so the handle on your knife will have its own character.
Is the leather sheath included?
Yes. The handmade leather belt sheath with brass rivets shown ships with the knife at no extra cost.
