Description
River Pearl is the showpiece of the bull cutter line. The scales are genuine mother of pearl — the iridescent inner layer of the shell — so the handle shifts through white, cream, rose and green as you turn it in the light, and no two pieces are ever the same. Behind a solid brass bolster sits a second, smaller mother of pearl spacer, divided from the main scale by a single red fiber line. The blade is D2 tool steel in a clean matte satin.
Under all that shell, the grind is still a working cowboy bull cutter: a deep, square-nosed sheepsfoot with a full 3.5 inch straight edge, a blunt tip that will not dive, and a notched choil for choking up close.

Please note: mother of pearl is cut from natural shell, and usable pieces come in the sizes the shell gives us. The mother of pearl spacer behind the bolster will therefore vary in size from knife to knife — it may be noticeably larger or smaller than the one in the photograph, depending on the material available when your knife is built. The overall dimensions of the knife do not change.
Built for: collectors, display, and gifting — retirement, anniversaries, weddings and milestone birthdays. It is a fully functional bull cutter and will cut anything the working models will, but most owners keep this one out of the mud.
Care: D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel — wipe the blade dry after use and oil it lightly before storage. Mother of pearl is a natural shell material: it is hard but it can chip if the handle is struck against something solid, and it does not like prolonged direct sun, extreme heat or long soaking. Wipe it with a soft damp cloth and dry it — never use solvents, abrasives or ultrasonic cleaners on it. Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath long term.
FAQs
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
No. Mother of pearl is natural shell — the colour, the direction of the iridescence and the figure differ on every single scale, and as noted above the size of the spacer piece behind the bolster varies with the material available. Your River Pearl will match the shape, dimensions and build shown, but the handle will be one of a kind.
Why does the spacer size change?
Because shell is cut from a curved natural surface, only part of any given piece is thick and flat enough to use. We cut the main scales first and make the spacer from what the same material allows, so it comes out a little larger on some knives and a little smaller on others. It is a consequence of using real shell rather than a synthetic.
Is mother of pearl durable enough to use?
It is hard and it wears well, but it is more brittle than wood, bone or Micarta — a sharp knock on a hard edge can chip it. Treat it as a fine handle material: use the knife, but do not throw it in a toolbox.
Is the shell ethically sourced?
Yes. It is a by-product of the food and pearl-farming industries and involves no protected or endangered species.
Is the leather sheath included?
Yes. The handmade leather belt sheath shown ships with the knife at no extra cost.
