Description
Steel Bastion is what happens when a Damascus billet gets built into something that owes nothing to tradition. Twenty-six inches overall, straight-backed, with an angled tanto tip — no curve, no fuller, no fittings that would have made sense in any century before this one. The blade is etched to a black and satin two-tone so the pattern surfaces as contrast rather than shine, and the tip section runs darker than the flat.
The handle is OD green textured G10, cut with deep contour grooves so it indexes in the hand without looking at it, held on with black oxide bolts. Behind the scales the tang runs on, exposed and wrapped in black paracord, finishing in a lanyard loop. It is an industrial object and it does not pretend otherwise.

Built for: collectors who want a Damascus blade without the brass and burl that usually comes attached to one. Functionally it is a heavy chopper — the tanto tip puts a lot of steel behind the point, which is exactly what you want if the sword is ever going to be used rather than hung. The exposed wrapped tang lets you two-hand it for a swing.
Why a tanto tip on a sword: a conventional point tapers to almost nothing and is the first thing to bend or snap. A tanto puts a second, angled edge at the front and keeps full blade thickness right up to the tip. It gives up some piercing finesse and gets back a point that will not fail.
On the Damascus: pattern-welded and hand-forged, so every blade carries its own figure. Yours will not match the photograph exactly.
Care: Damascus is high carbon steel — it will rust if left wet, and fingerprints are acidic. Wipe the blade down after handling and keep a light coat of mineral oil on it. The G10 and the paracord need nothing but soap and water. Store the sword out of the scabbard; leather holds moisture against steel.
FAQs
Is the black finish a coating? No — it is in the etch. The two tone comes from how deeply the different steel layers take the acid, so it cannot chip or flake off the way a Cerakote or DLC coating can.
Why G10 rather than wood on a sword? Because this one is built as a tool first. G10 is fibreglass laminate — waterproof, dimensionally stable, unbothered by heat or cold, and grippier when wet than any polished wood. It will still look the same in twenty years.
Can I re-wrap the tang? Yes. It is standard paracord over an exposed tang — unwrap it, use it, re-wrap it however you like.
Does it arrive sharp? Yes. If you want it delivered unsharpened for display or to satisfy a local requirement, note it on the order.
Is a scabbard included? Yes — a fitted leather scabbard comes with the sword.
