Description
Latigo Ranger is the plain working bull cutter in the line, and it is the one we would put on our own belt. No pattern welding, no burl, no brass show — a D2 tool steel blade in a quiet matte grey satin, straight-grained American walnut scales, two stainless pins and a brass-lined lanyard hole. It is named for latigo, the saddle strap that does the hardest job on a rig and never gets looked at.
The grind is a deep, square-nosed sheepsfoot: a full 3.5 inches of straight edge, a blunt tip that will not dive when you cut against hide or sacking, and a notched choil so you can choke right up to the blade.

Built for: daily ranch and stock work, saddle and trail carry, cutting twine, hide and feed sacks, camp and kitchen chores, and everyday belt carry. If you want one bull cutter that you will simply use and not fuss over, this is it.
Care: D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel — highly rust resistant but not rust proof. Wipe the blade dry after use and oil it lightly before long storage. Walnut is a natural wood: clean it with a damp cloth and rub in a little wood wax or oil two or three times a year. Never put this knife in a dishwasher, and do not store it inside the leather sheath for long periods.
FAQs
What is a cowboy bull cutter used for?
It is a cattleman’s utility knife. The square, blunt sheepsfoot nose lets you bear down against hide, rope or a feed sack with no risk of the tip going somewhere it should not. Ranch hands have carried the pattern for generations, and it has since become one of the most useful all-round belt knives you can own.
How good is D2 for a working knife?
Very good. D2 runs around 58–60 HRC and holds a working edge considerably longer than the stainless most utility knives use. It takes a little more effort to re-sharpen and it wants to be kept dry, but for a knife that gets used every day the edge retention is worth it.
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
Close. The blade, fittings and dimensions will match; walnut is a natural wood, so the grain and colour of your handle will be its own.
Is the leather sheath included?
Yes. The handmade leather belt sheath shown ships with the knife at no extra cost.
How sharp does it arrive?
Shaving sharp. Every blade is hand sharpened and stropped before it is boxed.
