Description
Sage Outrider is built for the rider who is out before the sun and back after it. The D2 blade is finished in a hand-rubbed matte satin — a soft, grey, non-reflective surface that will not flash at livestock and will not show every mark of a hard day — and the handle is olive green canvas Micarta, the toughest, most weatherproof grip material we work with. A solid brass bolster caps the butt and carries the lanyard hole.
The blade is a classic cowboy bull cutter: a deep, square-nosed sheepsfoot with a notched choil, giving you a full straight edge and a safe blunt tip for work against hide, rope and sacking. It ships in a hand-tooled leather belt sheath with a floral western pattern stamped into the face.

Built for: daily ranch and stock work, trail and saddle carry, hunting camp, cutting twine, hide and feed sacks, and hard outdoor use in wet weather where a wood handle would rather not be. A practical, good-looking gift for a cowboy, farrier, rancher or outdoorsman.
Care: D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel — highly rust resistant but not rust proof. Wipe the blade dry after use and oil it lightly before long storage. Canvas Micarta needs almost nothing: wash it with soap and water and it will keep going. The brass bolster will darken to a warm patina over time; polish it with brass cleaner if you prefer it bright. Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath long term.
FAQs
Why a satin finish instead of a mirror polish?
A hand-rubbed matte satin does not throw glare, which matters when you are working close to animals, and it hides the fine scratches that come with real use. It is the finish most working cowboys ask for.
How tough is canvas Micarta?
Extremely. Micarta is layered canvas set in resin: it does not swell, crack, warp or rot, it shrugs off blood, water, oil and solvents, and its texture actually improves its grip when wet. It is the handle material to choose if the knife will live outdoors.
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
The knife itself will match closely — Micarta is a manufactured material, so the olive green colour and weave are consistent. The hand-tooled leather sheath is stamped by hand, so the tooling pattern will vary slightly from the one shown.
Is the sheath included?
Yes. The hand-tooled leather belt sheath pictured ships with the knife at no extra cost.
What is the notch in front of the handle for?
That is a choil. It lets you slide your index finger forward onto the base of the blade for close, delicate cuts, and it gives the edge a clean place to end when you sharpen it.
