A three inch drop point, assessed
Three inches is the sweet spot for a folder. Long enough to break down a shipping box in one pull, short enough to stay unremarkable. The drop point puts the tip on the centerline, which makes it accurate for piercing and strong enough that it will not snap the way a fine clip point can. How the wood ages
Wood scales move. They take on oil from your hands, they darken along the grain first, and after a few years the surface has a depth that a new knife simply does not have. That is the upside. The downside is that wood is the one handle material that can shrink away from a bolster in a very dry climate. A wipe of paste wax twice a year prevents almost all of it. If you live somewhere with hard winters and dry indoor heat, do it in autumn rather than spring.
Five point six ounces, and the lanyard hole
This is the heaviest folder in this group, and at 5.6 ounces it rides best on a belt clip rather than loose in a pocket. There is a lanyard hole through the butt, which is not decoration on a knife this weight; a short cord makes it far easier to retrieve from a deep pocket. A three blade traditional folder is the alternative if you would rather carry several small edges than one useful one.
Cleaning: pocket knives get dirtier than fixed blades because the dirt has somewhere to hide. Open it, rinse the channel with warm water, work the blade a dozen times, then dry it thoroughly with compressed air or a hairdryer on low. Oil the pivot sparingly and the blade generously. FAQs
Does it come with a pouch? Yes, a stitched leather pouch is included.
Can I take the scales off to clean under them? The screws come out, but we do not recommend it. Reassembly affects lock geometry.
Is the action smooth out of the box? It is firm at first. Handmade folders bed in over the first few dozen openings.
