Description

A collector’s knife that still cuts

Ocean Bloom was made for the shelf and the hand at once. The handle is a hand-poured resin block shot through with blue, green and violet, swirled while it cured so the color runs in currents rather than sitting in flat bands. Under a lamp it shifts as you turn it, the way the inside of a shell does. No two pours have ever come out the same, and we do not try to make them.

Against that color the blade reads almost quiet. It is forged Damascus, folded and drawn out until the layers show as a tight rain-drop pattern, then etched in acid so the two alloys separate into bright and dark. Look along the flat at a low angle and you can follow individual bands running the length of the grind and curling around the tip. That pattern is structural, not printed; it goes all the way through the steel and it will still be there after a lifetime of sharpening. If you want to know how the billet gets there, we wrote up the forge-welding process end to end.

The shape

A spear point puts the tip near the center line of the blade, which makes it precise for detail work and strong for its size, because there is steel on both sides supporting the point. The edge runs in a long, even arc with only a little belly, so it slices more than it rocks. Owners use this one for opening parcels, cutting flowers, trimming thread and, honestly, for handing across a table so somebody can look at it.

A polished bolster caps the front of the handle where the steel meets the resin. It adds weight forward of your fingers and balances the knife just behind the pinch grip, which is the reason it feels calmer in the hand than its size suggests.

Made in Memphis

Forging, grinding, heat treat, handle work, leather, final edge: all of it happens under one roof in Memphis, Tennessee. The person who ground the bevels is the person who set the edge on it before it went in the box, and the sheath was stitched twenty feet away.

Living with it

Damascus is carbon steel and it will spot if you let water sit on it. Dry the blade whenever it gets wet, keep it out of the sheath for long storage, and put a thin smear of oil on the flats before it goes in a drawer for the season. Resin needs nothing at all beyond a wipe. Do not run it through a dishwasher, and do not use an abrasive pad on the etched surface, which will dull the contrast. Anyone comparing patterns before buying should read how to spot a printed imitation. Its closest relative in the range is the Pearl Lily, cut on the same lines in a paler palette.

This turned out to be way better than I thought it would be. Pommel and guard are solid, no wobble anywhere on the knife. Zero complaints from me on this purchase.

Didn’t think a knife at this price could feel this premium. Blade holds a razor edge right out of the box. Can’t wait to see what else this shop has to offer.

This is hands down one of the best knives I’ve bought online. Handle has a great grip even with wet or gloved hands. Leather sheath is thick and well stitched. Not the cheap stuff you usually get. Took it out camping right away and it handled everything I threw at it. So worth it.

This is exactly what I wanted and then some. Blade geometry makes it glide through cuts with barely any effort. Weight and balance make it feel like a real working knife not some cheap import. Took it out camping right away and it handled everything I threw at it. Shipping was fast and everything arrived well packaged.

My whole family passed this knife around at dinner just to look at it. Even the small details in the damascus pattern are crisp and clean. Nice to support a Memphis based knife maker, shipping was fast even internationally. Beyond happy with how this turned out.
