The only tool-steel balisong on this page
D2 is not pattern-welded and is not trying to be. It is a high-chromium, high-carbon die steel developed for punches and shear blades, and its behavior on a knife follows straight from that job description. It holds a working edge far longer than 1095, it resists surface rust well enough that you can be casual with it, and it fights you on a stone when the time finally comes. Expect a coarse diamond plate and patience rather than five minutes on a ceramic rod. For a balisong that gets carried, flipped, and left in a bag, that is usually the right set of trade-offs.
Lean for a 9.4-inch knife
6.5 ounces across 9.4 inches is unusually light. That is the same weight as our 6.2-inch rose wood build in a frame three inches longer. The result is a big knife that does not behave like one: rotational inertia is low for the length, so it turns faster than the dimensions suggest, while the 4.7-inch handles still give a full grip. If you have wanted a long balisong but found the usual seven-and-a-half-ounce builds tiring on the wrist, start here.
Camel bone at $172
Bone scales at this price normally mean dyed cattle bone. This is camel, undyed, and it is the least expensive route into that material we offer; the hand-engraved camel bone version costs more than fifty dollars more. One note of honesty: the specification above gives no hardness figure for the D2, because we would rather not publish a number we cannot stand behind on every single unit.
