Description

Adonis arrives as two knives rather than one, and that changes what you are actually buying. Two full-size Filipino balisongs with satin clip-point blades and ported steel channel handles, sized and weighted to be worked in both hands at the same time instead of admired one at a time.

Blade length 12 cm
Steel High carbon steel
Hardness 58–60 HRC, oil tempered
Handle – High Carbon Steel

A pair, but never twins

Lay them beside each other under a lamp and small differences surface. Grind lines meet the ricasso at fractionally different heights. One latch drops home with a crisper click than the other. The drilled ports throw light back at slightly different angles because every one of them was broken and smoothed by hand rather than by a machine that never varies. None of this is a fault to be corrected. It is the honest signature of two knives finished on two separate afternoons, and it is worth knowing in advance if you plan to hand one of them to somebody as half of a gift.

What running two of them teaches you

Flipping a knife in each hand is a different skill from flipping one, not double the same skill. Your weaker hand has to rebuild every roll from nothing, and for the first stretch the whole thing feels like starting over from scratch. Two knives of matching mass and identical blade length make that far less maddening than borrowing some mismatched second knife from a drawer, because the timing your good hand already owns transfers straight across instead of having to be relearned against different weight.

The trap that catches every set

One knife gets carried and the other sits. The one that sits is always the one that spots, for the simple reason that nobody remembers to wipe down a knife they have not touched. Rotate them week by week, or oil the resting one properly and leave it that way until its turn comes round. Both came off the same stock and the same temper, so both want the same treatment, and the blade care routine we recommend costs about a minute per knife.

Cut and finished in Memphis

Profiling, drilling, heat treat, pin fitting, sharpening and the final function test all happen in our Tennessee shop, one knife at a time and then a second one beside it. The two travel in one black leather belt carrier, hand-sewn, with a riveted retaining strap, which is a better home for them than a kitchen drawer.

When two is not enough

Practice knives get lent out, dropped and occasionally kept by whoever borrowed them. If what you want is a working rack rather than a matched couple, there is a four-knife high carbon lot put together for that job. And if you are curious why sets like this one exist at all, the history behind the balisong covers the Batangas workshops the format came out of.

Model: BMK-400B

Ownership rules for this style vary by state and by country, so check yours before you order. Both knives carry our lifetime warranty.
