Description

Meet the Quality Made Stainless: a four edge cross dagger with honest weight in the hand and finishing you’d expect from a jeweler-turned-bladesmith. The blade is a slender cruciform spike, four ground faces meeting at four edges, polished bright and tapering to a needle point.

Steel Stainless steel
Handle Turned stainless steel hilt with ball tipped quillons and a round pommel
Hardness 58–60 HRC, oil tempered
Included Hand-stitched leather sheath

Built for: collectors of traditional and historical blade designs. A display and collection piece, finished with premium materials and delivered with its sheath.

The blade

Where most of our bench work is pattern-welded, this one is stainless steel, mirror polished to a jeweler’s finish rather than acid etched. That was a deliberate choice. A cruciform blade lives or dies on the crispness of its four flats, and surface figure would only muddy the reflections running along those long ground faces. Hardened and oil tempered, it keeps its point, and stainless means the polish survives being handled by people who have not washed their hands. There is a genuine difference between a dagger and a knife, and our guide to knife versus dagger geometry explains where the line falls.

The hilt

The handle is hand crafted and turned rather than cast: a swelling grip, ringed collars, ball-tipped quillons at the crossguard and a heavy round pommel that balances the blade back into the palm. Every surface is brought up to the same mirror as the blade, which is unforgiving work, because one deep scratch means going back several grits and starting over. The shape belongs to the European parade and ceremonial tradition rather than to anything you would take camping, and it is meant to be looked at.

The sheath

A hand-stitched leather sheath comes with it, dyed black, stamped with a repeating border and fitted with a wide belt strap. The welt is set so those four edges do not saw at the stitching on the way in and out.

Care for a polished piece

Stainless resists corrosion; it does not ignore it. Fingerprints are mildly acidic, so wipe the piece with a soft cloth after anyone handles it, and keep it off bare leather in long storage. Microfiber and a breath of warm air will clear haze. Abrasive metal polish will round your crisp arrises, so leave it in the cupboard. If this is going on a shelf or into a case, our advice on how to store knives properly applies here more than to most of the catalog.

FAQs

Is this Damascus steel? No. This piece is stainless steel with a mirror polish, and there is no pattern-welded figure in the blade.

What does four edge mean? The blade has a cross-shaped section, with four ground faces and four cutting edges converging on the point. It is a historic thrusting form.

Is it sharpened? It arrives with finished edges and a fine point, and it is best treated as a collector’s item.

Can it be engraved? Yes — a short inscription can be laser engraved for an added fee, chosen at checkout.
