Made for: a keyring, a coin pocket, or the kitchen drawer where you want an edge within reach and nothing bulky. Each knife opens on a brass thumb stud. The size is the whole idea here: opening boxes, cutting cord, trimming a loose thread. Six of them means one lives wherever you keep needing one.

Care: these are high-carbon blades and they will spot if you put them away damp. Dry each one after use and leave a thin film of mineral oil on the steel before the set goes back in the drawer. The handle scales are a sealed synthetic, so a wipe with a damp cloth is all they ask, but keep acetone and paint thinner away from them or the polish goes cloudy.

Why no two look alike

Each billet is drawn out, folded and welded by hand, so the layers stretch and compress differently every time. When the finished blade goes into the acid, the 15N20 resists the etch and the 1095 darkens, and whatever the layers did during forging is what you see. Line the six up and the pattern reads as one family, not one stamp repeated. If you want the arithmetic behind the layer count, we set it out in what 352 layers means.

What a blade this short is good at

A short blade is stiffer, easier to control at the tip and far less intimidating to hand to someone. It is not a hunting knife and it will not pretend to be one. If you want more edge on the same footprint, a three-blade Tri Fold pocket knife stacks several profiles into one frame instead. Our notes on choosing an everyday carry knife cover the trade-off in more detail.

Buying a set rather than a single

Sets get split. People keep two and give four away, or put one in each vehicle. That is a sensible use of them, and it is why we finish all six to the same standard rather than treating five as filler around a hero piece. It also means you can hand one over without ceremony. A single expensive knife becomes an heirloom nobody dares use; six modest ones get used, lost, found again and carried, which is what a knife is for in the first place.

FAQs

Are the handle colors fixed? The six shown in the photograph are what ships. Dyed material varies batch to batch, so the shade you receive will be close rather than pixel-identical.

How sharp are they on arrival? Sharpened by hand on the bench and shaving sharp when they leave Memphis.

Is leather supplied? Yes. The carry leather for the set is named in the table further up this page.
