A straight edge is a specialist

There is no belly on this blade. The cutting edge runs dead straight from the handle to the tip, and the spine drops to meet it. Put it on a board or a box and the whole edge contacts at once, and one downward stroke does the work of three rocking ones. Six ounces in a folder

Six ounces is substantial for a pocket knife and you will notice it clipped inside a trouser pocket. In use it is an advantage: the mass keeps the blade tracking straight through cardboard instead of wandering. Belt carry suits it better than jeans. A lighter folder chatters when the material fights back, and this one simply does not.

The scales

The scales are a deep indigo-toned wood with the grain still visible under the color, capped by a polished steel bolster. Colored wood fades in sunlight, so keep the knife out of a car dashboard. The steel bolster shows fine scratches quickly and they blend into a satin finish after a few months. Wipe the bolster dry rather than buffing it and the surface stays even.

Care: The blade is high carbon Damascus and will discolor if it stays wet. Dry it after every use and again after cleaning. Wooden scales dislike solvents, so keep the alcohol wipes away from the handle and use a damp cloth instead. Oil the pivot rather than flooding it. FAQs

Is a straight edge harder to sharpen? Easier, in fact. With no curve there is nothing to sweep, so you hold one angle and draw the blade down the stone.

Does it lock? Yes. Open it until you hear the lock seat, and check it is seated before you put weight on the blade. A folder that shuts on your fingers usually does so because somebody skipped that step.

What if I want a curved blade instead? The Queen Snake folder has the belly this one gives up.

How thick is the spine? Substantial enough to push on with a thumb through carpet backing, while the grind runs thin behind the edge so it still slices. Geometry does that work, not bulk.
