How to tell this pattern is forged, not printed
Look at the bolster and the blade. The pattern crosses the ground bevel and changes direction where the steel was moved under the hammer, which a printed or laser-etched pattern cannot do because it sits on a flat surface. What a knife this size costs to make
Small does not mean cheap to produce. The billet is forged the same way, the bolster is cut from patterned steel rather than plain bar, and the fitting is fiddlier because the tolerances are the same on a two inch handle as on a five inch one. Who should skip it
Anyone who needs to cut rope, wood, hide or anything requiring force should buy a bigger knife. Anyone with large hands who wants a single do-everything folder should look elsewhere. This is a supplementary knife, and it is honest about that. The standard Tsetse Fly shows the same design in the original handle.
Care: Two ounces of carbon steel in a pocket rusts as readily as twelve, so the routine is the same: dry it, oil it lightly, and do not put it away damp. Work a cotton bud into the gap behind the bolster where a cloth will not reach. The blue scales are sealed and colorfast under normal use, though prolonged direct sunlight will lighten them over years.
FAQs
Is the blade full Damascus or just etched? Full pattern-welded steel. Two carbon steels are joined in the fire, and acid brings the layering up afterward.
Will it hold an edge? At 58 to 60 HRC, yes, and light use means it rarely needs more than a few passes on a stone.
Does it come boxed? It ships with a hand-stitched leather sheath and is packed ready to give.
