Why the pattern looks so busy

Compress the same number of forge-welded layers into a blade this short and the bands stack up far more densely than they do on a chef knife. What you are looking at is not a finer pattern but the same one seen at close range. The etch bites the two steels at different rates, so the darker lines are the 1095 and the bright ones are the 15N20. Turn it slowly under a lamp and the banding shifts as the angle of the light changes. There is more on this in what the layer count actually means.

The limits, stated plainly

You cannot get a full grip on it. You cannot lean on it. The lock is small, the pivot is small, and the edge is shorter than your index finger. Ask it to cut cardboard all afternoon and your hand will give out first and the knife will be next. None of that is a criticism, it is simply the size you chose. Within its range it is genuinely useful, and outside that range you want the Fallen folding knife instead.

Keeping it running

Small folders bind long before large ones do, because the same speck of grit is proportionally larger in the pivot. Flush it out rather than forcing it. Warm water, a little dish soap, a thorough dry and then a fresh drop of oil is usually enough to free a sticky action. Our pocket knife cleaning steps work at this scale too.

Care: After damp use, dry the inside of the handle as thoroughly as the edge, and pull a cloth along the grooved brass on the spine where water sits. Oil the carbon steel every couple of weeks if you carry it daily, less if it lives in a drawer. The handle material is stable and needs nothing beyond soap and water, but avoid solvents, which can cloud the surface.

FAQs

How long is the blade exactly? An inch and a half of edge on a knife that closes to three inches, at two ounces.

Is the striping natural? The layered structure of the handle material is natural. The color is applied to it, and it runs through rather than sitting on the surface.

Is each knife identical? No. The Damascus etch and the handle figure vary from piece to piece.

Does it come with a clip? There is no pocket clip at this size. Most owners run a cord through the lanyard hole or simply drop it into a bag pocket.
