Best suited to: someone who wants one object rather than an assembly, and who likes the idea of a pocket knife that looks the same in ten years as it does today.
An all-steel handle is a real trade
Steel scales cannot crack, shrink, absorb oil or lift away from the liners, which is what eventually finishes most natural handle materials. In exchange the knife is cold in January, slick when your hands are wet, and heavier than the same knife in walnut. Grip it firmly and dry your hands first. If you want scales with some give and grip, the Taipan wood-handled folder is the opposite choice at a similar size.
Three inches of drop point
A three inch drop point is the least controversial blade in existence. It opens boxes, cuts cord, breaks down fruit, trims a loose thread and field dresses a bird. There is nothing it is brilliant at and very little it is bad at, which is the point. It is short on belly for skinning and too short for kitchen work. Our notes on picking an everyday carry knife cover where that ceiling sits.
Opening and locking
There is a slot cut through the blade rather than a thumb stud, so the knife opens with either hand and nothing sticks out to catch on a pocket. The lock bar is a separate polished piece that runs down the inside of the handle.
Care: Everything you touch on this knife is high carbon steel, so the handle needs the same treatment as the edge. Wipe the whole knife dry, not just the blade, and put a drop of oil on the pivot every few weeks so grit does not grind into it. Patterned steel shows fingerprints readily; a cloth clears them. The method set out in cleaning a pocket knife applies here unchanged.
FAQs
Will the handle rust in my pocket? It can, in the same way the blade can. Pocket lint holds sweat. Wipe it down at the end of a hot day and it will be fine.
Is it slippery? With dry hands, no. Wet or greasy, yes — there is no texture on polished steel. Choose a wood or bone handle if that matters to you.
Will my pattern match the photograph? The layer count and steels are the same, but every billet etches differently. Yours will be recognizably the same knife and not an identical twin.

Absolutely love this knife. Very well packaged and saturated in oil.
