Description
Blackhorn is the compact one. A short high carbon spear point etched to a mottled grey, set into a T-grip of polished buffalo horn in gloss black with a single pale streak running through it and a cream fiber bolster at the collar. Small enough to vanish, solid enough that you always know where it is in the hand.
Double-edged with a centre fuller, both edges sharpened by hand. Because the grip crosses the palm rather than being held in the fingers, a blade this short loses nothing in control.

Care: High carbon steel is not stainless and will rust if it is put away wet. Wipe both edges dry after every use and keep a light film of mineral or camellia oil on the blade. Buffalo horn is a natural material: keep it out of prolonged direct sun and standing water, wipe it rather than soaking it, and work a little mineral oil into it once or twice a year. Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath for long periods.

What is a push dagger?
A short double-edged blade set at ninety degrees to a T-shaped handle. The grip sits across your palm with the blade between your middle and ring fingers, so the force comes from the whole arm rather than the wrist. It is the most secure way there is to hold a small blade — it cannot twist or be pulled out of the hand.

How do I sharpen a double-edged blade?
Treat each edge separately, keeping the same angle on both sides of each bevel, and work from the ricasso to the point in short sections. A small stone or ceramic rod is easier than a full bench stone on a blade this size.
Why high carbon steel rather than stainless?
It takes a keener edge and is far easier to bring back on a simple stone. The trade-off is rust: it has to be wiped dry and lightly oiled. This is the steel working blades were made from long before stainless existed.
Is the buffalo horn ethically sourced?
Yes. It is a by-product of the water buffalo meat industry and is completely unrelated to ivory or to any protected species.
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
No. Buffalo horn has its own streaking and banding — from near jet black through smoky grey to translucent amber — so every handle is different.
