Description
Amber Drover is the Damascus version of our cowboy bull cutter. Seven and a half inches overall, three and a half of that blade, in a sheepsfoot profile with a notched choil cut into the base of the edge. The steel is hand-forged Damascus, acid etched so the layer pattern stands up in relief across the whole flat.
The handle is olive burl wood over black fiber liners, capped at the front by a mirror-polished stainless bolster. A mosaic pin sits in the middle of the scale with two stainless pins around it, and there is a lanyard hole through the butt.

Who reaches for this one: the buyer who wants the pattern. Every other knife in this family is about steel doing a job; this one is about steel being looked at. It still works — the geometry is identical to the working versions — but you are paying for a hand-forged billet.
Why a sheepsfoot suits stock work
A sheepsfoot has no upswept point. The spine runs straight and then drops to meet a straight edge, so the sharp part is the whole edge and the tip is barely a tip at all. Working close to an animal, that is exactly what you want: you can cut with the full length pressed against something without a point wandering into it. The notched choil gives you a place to choke up for the last careful inch of a cut.
Olive burl, and why yours is unique
Burl is the growth that forms where a tree has been stressed — interlocked, disordered grain rather than straight fiber. Cut and stabilized it produces the swirling amber and brown figure you see here, and no two blocks are alike. It is also denser and more stable than straight-grained olive.
The mosaic pin and the bolster
A mosaic pin is a bundle of small rods soldered into a tube and sliced across, so the face shows a pattern rather than a plain dot. The polished stainless bolster caps the scales where they meet the blade.
Keeping rust off: Damascus is high carbon steel, and the etch leaves a slightly textured surface that holds moisture. Dry it immediately after use, never leave it in the sheath wet, and keep a light coat of oil on the blade. Our Damascus care and sharpening guide has the full routine. The burl wants nothing but a wipe.
FAQs
Will my pattern match the photo? No — same style, its own figure. Hand-forged billets never repeat.
Is the sheath included? Yes, a handmade leather belt sheath with a stud closure.
Does the layer count matter? Less than most listings pretend — what a layer count means explains why.
Is it dishwasher safe? No. Hand wash, dry immediately, oil the blade.
What is the same knife in a plainer steel? The Chrome Wrangler in mirror-polished D2 uses the same olive burl with a plain blade.
