Description
Ember Frost earns its name the moment you set it down in the snow: a blade in deep black oxide, and a handle of layered black and orange Micarta whose contoured rings glow like coals against the white. It is the most modern-looking knife in our cowboy bull cutter line, and underneath the finish it is exactly as serious as the rest — D2 tool steel, full tang, hardware you can take apart.
The 3.5 inch sheepsfoot blade gives you a full straight edge and a blunt, square nose that will not dive when you cut against hide, rope or sacking, with a notched choil for choking up close. The black oxide coating is more than looks: it is a corrosion barrier and it kills glare completely.

Built for: ranch and stock work, winter and wet-weather carry, hunting and camp chores, cutting twine, hide and feed sacks, and hard everyday use where a blade needs to disappear rather than shine. The high-visibility orange handle also means you can find it again if you put it down in leaves or snow.
Care: The black oxide finish protects the blade, but the cutting edge itself is bare D2 — wipe it dry after use and give it a light film of oil before storage. Avoid abrasive scouring pads on the coating. Micarta is effectively maintenance free: soap, water, and it is done. Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath for long periods.
FAQs
What does the black oxide finish actually do?
Three things: it kills reflection, which matters when you are working around animals or hunting; it adds a layer of corrosion resistance to the flats; and it hides marks. It is a surface conversion rather than paint, so it will not peel — it will simply wear brighter at the high spots over years of use.
Why screws instead of pins?
The scales are bolted rather than pinned, so you can take the handle off, clean underneath it and put it back — useful on a knife that sees blood, mud and feed. Just check the hardware is snug from time to time.
Is D2 a good steel for a ranch knife?
Yes. D2 runs around 58–60 HRC and holds a working edge much longer than the stainless most utility knives use. It is semi-stainless, so it wants to be kept dry, but it is a genuine step up in edge retention.
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
Very close. Micarta is a manufactured material, so the black-and-orange layering is consistent, though the exact pattern where the contours cut through the layers differs slightly on every handle. The leather sheath is tooled by hand and will vary a little.
Is the leather sheath included?
Yes. The tooled leather belt sheath shown ships with the knife at no extra cost.
