Description
Brass Maverick is a smith’s knife dressed for the ranch. The blade is hand forged from high carbon spring steel and left with the dark hammer texture across the flat and spine, with only the bevel drawn down bright, so you can read the work that went into it at a glance. The handle is buffalo horn — smoke black shot through with amber where the light gets behind it — bedded on a brass spacer, pinned in brass, and finished with a brass-lined lanyard hole at the butt.
The profile is the classic cowboy bull cutter: a deep, square-nosed sheepsfoot with a full straight edge and a notched choil, so you can cut hard against hide, twine and sacking with no point to snag and choke up close when you need control.

Built for: stock and ranch work, cutting twine, hide and feed sacks, barn and camp chores, and everyday belt carry. The forged finish, horn and brass also make it a handsome gift for a rancher, farrier, blacksmith or anyone who likes traditional hand work.
Care: High carbon spring steel is not stainless and will rust if it is put away wet. Wipe the blade dry after every use and keep a light film of mineral or camellia oil on the bright bevel. The dark forge finish is a protective oxide layer — leave it alone. Buffalo horn is natural: keep it out of prolonged direct sun and standing water and work a little mineral oil into it once or twice a year. The brass will darken to a warm patina; polish it if you prefer it bright. Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath long term.
FAQs
Why spring steel for a working blade?
Spring steel is a tough, high carbon alloy chosen for shock resistance — it flexes where a harder steel would chip. It takes a very keen edge, it can be touched up in the field on a simple stone, and it will take abuse. The trade-off is that it must be kept dry and lightly oiled.
What is the brass spacer for?
It is a thin brass liner between the tang and the horn scales. It seals the joint, adds a bright line of contrast against the dark horn, and gives the handle a small amount of extra rigidity — a traditional touch on hand-made knives.
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
No. Buffalo horn is a natural material with its own streaking and banding — from near black through smoky grey to translucent amber — and every forged blade carries its own hammer marks. Your Brass Maverick will share the shape and build shown, but the horn and the forge finish will be unique to it.
Is the buffalo horn ethically sourced?
Yes. It is a by-product of the water buffalo meat industry, completely unrelated to ivory or to any protected species.
Is the leather sheath included?
Yes. The black leather belt sheath with contrast stitching shown in the photograph ships with the knife at no extra cost.
