What the holes do

Removing metal from the forward half of a blade pulls the balance point back toward the pivots. The knife then wants to rotate rather than swing, so openings feel quicker and stops feel softer. That is an advantage in fast handwork and a disadvantage if you like a knife that settles firmly at the end of an arc. The holes also cost you something real: less steel across the blade means less stiffness, and a drilled blade should not be pried with. Use it as a cutting tool and it is fine. Bone, and keeping it white

The panels here are pale rather than cream, which shows dirt more readily than a darker handle. Hand oil and pocket grit will gray the surface within months if you do nothing. If you want it bright, wipe it with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once, because bone is porous enough to take up water and will stain from the inside if it is left wet. Never leave it soaking. Never put it near solvents.

Edge upkeep

The blade is bright and uniform, ground thin behind the edge, and it responds well to a fine stone.
