Handle – Stainless Steel with Bone Inserts

This one is for: flippers who want less mass out at the tip. Those holes are not decoration alone, and the way this knife comes over the knuckles is measurably different from a solid blade of the same length.

What the holes do

Removing metal from the forward half of a blade pulls the balance point back toward the pivots. The knife then wants to rotate rather than swing, so openings feel quicker and stops feel softer. That is an advantage in fast handwork and a disadvantage if you like a knife that settles firmly at the end of an arc. The holes also cost you something real: less steel across the blade means less stiffness, and a drilled blade should not be pried with. Use it as a cutting tool and it is fine. Use it as a lever and you will find the limit.

Bone, and keeping it white

The panels here are pale rather than cream, which shows dirt more readily than a darker handle. Hand oil and pocket grit will gray the surface within months if you do nothing. Nothing is a legitimate choice and plenty of owners like a used look. If you want it bright, wipe it with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once, because bone is porous enough to take up water and will stain from the inside if it is left wet. Never leave it soaking. Never put it near solvents.

Edge upkeep

The blade is bright and uniform, ground thin behind the edge, and it responds well to a fine stone. Holes in a blade complicate sharpening slightly: your stroke crosses open space, and if you rush you will round the edge where it passes a hole. Slow, consistent passes fix that. The whetstone guide shows the angle work. For the story behind this pattern of knife, the balisong origins guide is a good half hour. Preferring undrilled steel and a timber handle? Then look instead at the high grade wood butterfly knife.

Before ordering

Do the holes weaken the tip? Not the tip itself, which is solid. They reduce stiffness across the middle of the blade.

Does it come sharpened? Yes, ready to cut on arrival.

Are the holes deburred inside? Yes, each one is chamfered on both faces. An unfinished hole would shave your thumb during a rollover.
