Why dyed bone photographs badly and sells anyway
Color in bone is uneven by nature, so a single product photograph can only ever show one piece. The one you receive will share the color and not the pattern, because the dye follows the density of that particular insert. Buyers who understand this in advance are consistently happier with the knife than with the photograph, which is an unusual way round and is most of why this model repeats.
Stainless frame with a colored insert
Bright stainless next to a saturated insert is a harder, more graphic pairing than warm metal next to the same material. A warm frame shares tone with the dye and blurs the boundary. Stainless separates it. Stainless also stays the same color forever, so the frame will not creep toward the insert over the years. What you see in year one is what you get in year ten.
Maintaining the edge, not restoring it
D2 rewards touching up before it goes blunt. A dozen passes on a fine stone or a strop, as soon as the edge starts to drag through paper, will keep it going almost indefinitely. Letting it go fully dull means a long session with diamond to bring it back. The difference between honing and sharpening matters more on this steel than on most.
Care: the dye lives inside the bone, so cleaning cannot lift it, but heat and long immersion will dry and craze the surface it sits in. Wipe with a damp cloth, dry it, keep it out of hot water. The blade is semi-stainless, so a wipe after handling and an occasional light oil is enough unless you live somewhere salty, in which case treat it as you would a plain carbon blade.

This is a very classy knife! Thick blade and handle, has no blade play and comes with a fancy sheath and I do really like this balisong. However. Even though this is not a trick balisong and is more used as a tool and for self defense I think the handles are a little stiff and should be able to move a little more freely for open and close for quicker access to the blade. I don’t know if it’s because it’s new and needs to be broken in but that’s the only real complaint I have when the latch opens quicker than the handles. It came in a nice storage box and the knife was oiled up but be careful because I don’t know if this is all knives that come from here but mine was fully open and poking threw the cool box.
