Who buys it: first-time balisong owners who did the reading, and experienced flippers replacing something imported. It ships in a leather pouch, which is the detail nobody expects at this price.
Why this one moves
Nothing about it is clever. The blade is a plain grind with no swedge to catch, the handles are stainless with bone set flush, and the pivots are tuned on the bench before it is boxed so the first hundred openings do not feel gritty. Knives that sell in volume are almost always the ones where nothing was added for the photograph, and this is one of those. It is also the knife we get the fewest questions about after delivery, which tells you more than any of the copy on this page does.
Proportions
The blade to handle relationship here is the one most flippers settle on after trying the extremes. Longer, and the handles start clearing your forearm on aerials. Shorter, and the knife loses the momentum that makes a rollover feel automatic rather than forced. There is a reason this size has been the standard for decades, and it is not tradition for its own sake.
Bone and stainless together
Bone is dense, light, and it warms to your hand within seconds, which stainless never does on its own. Pairing them gives you a handle with the mass of metal at the ends and the feel of a natural material where your fingers actually sit. Each panel takes the finish slightly differently, so no two pairs match exactly and yours will not be identical to the one photographed.
Care
D2 is semi-stainless. It resists corrosion well and is not immune, so dry it after handling and give the blade a light coat before the knife goes into storage for a season. The bone needs no treatment at all beyond staying out of dishwater and solvents. Pivot screws can back off with heavy flipping; a small turn on each brings the action back.

Is it a trainer? No. The edge is sharpened and it will cut you if you drop a catch. Learn on a blunt knife first.
