Day to day: pocket carry that does not look like the black polymer folder everyone else is holding. Opening boxes, cutting cord and tape, breaking down packaging, trimming a loose thread. Three inches of edge covers almost everything a knife gets asked to do in a week, and this one weighs little enough that you stop noticing it is there.

What a tanto point is good and bad at

The tanto puts a lot of steel behind the tip and meets the main edge at an angle instead of a curve. That makes it hard to break and very good at punching through tough material — cardboard stacks, webbing, thick tape, a stubborn clamshell package. The same geometry makes it poor at anything needing a belly. Slicing an apple, skinning small game, or any cut where you want the edge to roll through the material will feel awkward. You also end up sharpening two separate edges, because the front bevel and the long edge are different angles and want treating separately.

The file-work is decorative, and that is fine

The brass work along the spine is hand-cut, so the spacing varies slightly from knife to knife. It does nothing mechanical. It also gives dirt somewhere to collect. If you carry this in a work pocket, expect to clear grit out of the cuts with a toothpick every few weeks. Brass darkens as it oxidizes and comes back with a wipe of metal polish if you want it bright, or you can leave it and let it go warm and dull. Either is correct.

Who should look elsewhere

If you want a folder to disappear entirely in a dress pocket, this is more knife than you need. If you want one blade for hunting, this is not it. And if you carry across state lines, read the guide to choosing an EDC knife before you commit, because blade length rules vary. A smaller two-and-a-half-inch Damascus folder stays legal in more places.

Common questions

How do I clean the pivot? Flush it with warm water, work the blade, blow it dry, then one drop of oil at the pivot. Do not soak it. Our pocket knife cleaning guide has the full routine.

Is it a one-hand opener? Yes, though the action needs breaking in over the first week or two.

Can I get initials on it? Yes, engraving is an option at checkout.
