Description

Tiger Amber is the loud one. The scales are tiger micarta — dyed canvas stacked in layers and pressed, then ground to a contoured shape, so the cut runs across the stack and pulls the layers up as rings around every high point. Orange bands run through the darker layers. Under it is the standard tracker: mirror-polished D2, 6.38 inches, sawback spine, stainless screws.

Overall length 11.88 inches
Blade length 6.38 inches
Blade thickness 0.25 inches
Steel D2 tool steel, hand mirror polished
Grind Tom Brown tracker profile — chopping belly, straight fine-work section, sawback spine
Handle Orange and brown tiger micarta with stainless steel screws
Lanyard Drilled lanyard hole through the butt
Included Black leather tracker sheath

What you will do with it: camp and shelter work where a hatchet is overkill and a folder is useless. Chopping on the forward belly, carving on the straight section behind it, notching with the sawback. The bright handle is the easiest knife in this range to find again after you set it down in leaf litter.

Full tang, and what that buys you

The blade, the ricasso and the whole handle core are one continuous piece of D2, and the micarta scales are bolted to the sides. They are a covering, not a structure. That matters on a knife you chop and baton with, because the load path from edge to hand never crosses a joint. A partial tang buries a narrow stub in a handle and concentrates every impact where that stub enters — which is where partial-tang knives fail. Full tang versus partial tang has the comparison.

What the twin-edge profile will and will not do

It chops far better than a straight blade of the same weight, because the belly puts the mass and the impact in the same place. It carves cleanly if you choke up onto the straight section. It will not slice, because the curve lifts the edge out of a long cut, and it will not do fine tip work. The sawback notches rather than saws — no set on the teeth, so they jam once buried.

Care: Dry the blade and oil it lightly once a month. The mirror is the fragile part — a cloth is fine, an abrasive pad is not. Micarta is inert and waterproof, so wash it with soap and water after a sappy job. Check the scale screws once a season. The steel comparison sets D2 against the alternatives.

FAQs

Is the handle slippery wet? No. Canvas micarta grips harder wet, because the exposed thread ends swell slightly against the resin.

Why do the rings appear? Layered micarta shows its stripes where a cut passes through the stack at an angle. Grinding a palm swell does exactly that, so no two handles come out identical.

Is this knife full tang? Yes — one continuous piece of D2 from tip to butt, with bolted scales either side.

Is there a quieter color? Jade Warden is the same knife in olive green G10.
