Description
Pale Longhorn is the pale one — a cream camel bone handle with its natural freckling still in it, laid against a brass bolster with a single red fiber line at the joint. Set on weathered corral boards at sundown it almost disappears into the grass, which is exactly the colour a bone-handled stock knife has been on working ranches for a hundred and fifty years.
The blade is D2 tool steel in a matte grey satin, ground as a deep square-nosed sheepsfoot with a full 3.5 inch straight edge and a notched choil. No point to snag, all edge to cut with.

Built for: livestock and ranch work, cutting twine, hide and feed sacks, hunting and camp chores, and everyday belt carry. The bone and brass also make it a fine gift — it photographs beautifully and it looks right in a display case.
Care: D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel — very rust resistant, but wipe it dry after use and oil it lightly before storage. Camel bone is a natural material: keep it out of prolonged direct sun and standing water, wipe it clean rather than soaking it, and it will slowly warm to a deeper cream with handling. Do not store the knife inside the leather sheath long term, and keep it out of the dishwasher.
FAQs
Is camel bone ethical? Is it related to ivory?
It is entirely ethical and entirely unrelated to ivory. Camel bone is a by-product of the camel meat industry, from animals that were not raised or taken for their bone, and it involves no protected or endangered species whatsoever. It has been used as a knife handle material for centuries precisely because it is a hard-wearing use of something that would otherwise be discarded.
Will my knife look exactly like the photograph?
No. Bone is natural, so the cream tone, the freckling and the fine grain differ on every set of scales. Your Pale Longhorn will share the shape, dimensions and build shown, but the handle will be its own.
Is bone durable enough for a working knife?
Yes. Camel bone is dense and hard, and it has been a standard handle material on working stock knives for generations. Like any natural material it does not enjoy being left soaking wet or baked in the sun, but in normal use it will outlast you.
How does D2 compare with stainless?
D2 runs around 58–60 HRC and holds a working edge considerably longer than the stainless most utility knives use. It is semi-stainless rather than fully stainless, so it wants to be kept dry.
Is the leather sheath included?
Yes. The tooled leather belt sheath shown ships with the knife at no extra cost.
