Solid brass, nothing inlaid
No horn, no bone, no wood. The handles are brass through and through, which makes this the densest-feeling knife of the 11-inch group even though its dimensions match its stablemates almost exactly. Brass is roughly twice the density of the woods used elsewhere in the range, and every bit of that difference turns into momentum once the handles are moving.
What the mass does for you and to you
Weight cuts both ways. Chained spins carry themselves and the knife wants to keep rotating, which flatters technique that is already reasonably clean. It also punishes a bad catch: a heavy metal handle landing across a knuckle genuinely hurts, and a drop onto tile leaves a dent rather than a scratch. Work up to it with the edge taped and the sequences in the trick guide before trying anything one-handed. Note also the 6-inch handles against a 5-inch blade — a full inch of overhang, which is more finger clearance than any of the shorter models give you.
Patina is not damage
Bare brass goes from bright yellow to a dull gold-brown within weeks of regular handling, faster if your skin runs acidic. There is nothing wrong with the metal when this happens and no coating to strip. Leave it and it evens out into something that looks its age, or polish it back whenever the mood takes you. Keep the pivots lubricated separately — the oil that will not gum up is a different product from metal polish. If you would rather grip something that is not cold metal, the bone-panelled build of the same knife is twelve dollars more.
