The handle outruns the blade

4.7 inches of handle against a 4.4-inch blade. That quarter inch matters more than it reads: the edge seats inside the channel with clearance left over when the knife is shut, instead of parking against the bottom of the channel every single close. Balisongs built tight to the blade collect small flat spots along the edge from nothing more than ordinary closing. This one has the room designed in, and it is the sort of detail you only notice after a few hundred closes.

A stainless blade, and what you give up for it

The blade here is stainless rather than layered carbon, at 58–60 HRC. The trade is real in both directions. You lose the deep patina and the very fine edge that carbon steel enthusiasts chase, and you lose the pattern entirely. What you get back is a blade that tolerates a humid pocket, a sweaty session, and an owner who forgets to wipe it down, without punishing you for any of it. For a piece that gets handled constantly rather than displayed, that is often the better bargain — how stainless blade steel is graded and a broader comparison across the common grades both cover where the line sits.

Philippine deer horn

The inserts are deer horn, which is dense, faintly translucent where it thins at the edges, and completely inconsistent from piece to piece in its brown and cream streaking. It polishes under handling rather than wearing away, so the panels tend to look better after a year than they did new. Want the same 9.1-inch frame with a layered blade and darker inserts instead? That is the water buffalo horn build.

I Love it! Been breaking it in since it got here. I’m going to buy another B.M. butterfly knife soon. Its a little big to flip well but I knew that. It’s really an impressive knife though. I’m going for something a little lighter next.
