Handles well for: people who want a folder that behaves like a fixed blade. The blade is wide with a lot of belly, so it slices long and it takes a push cut through a board. At 7.8 oz you know it is there. The scales are held on with steel torx screws, which means the knife can be stripped, cleaned and reassembled rather than sent away.

Care: G10 is glass fiber suspended in epoxy and is genuinely indifferent to water, sweat, solvent and temperature, so the handle needs nothing. All the attention goes to the blade and the pivot. Dry the carbon Damascus after use, put a drop of oil on the pivot twice a year, and run a thin film over the flats before storage. The Damascus bolsters are the same steel as the blade and rust the same way.

The pattern on this one

This is a pool and eye figure: concentric rings scattered across the flat rather than lines running along it. It reads as busier than a twist and it hides scratches better, which is a real advantage on a knife you actually carry. The bolsters were cut from the same billet, so the figure carries across the join.

Screws instead of pins

A pinned handle is permanent. A screwed handle can be opened, which matters more than it sounds like it should, because pocket grit is what kills folders and grit is trapped between the scale and the liner. Two minutes with a torx driver solves what would otherwise be a warranty return. Use a driver that actually fits; a rounded screw head on a fitted handle is a genuinely annoying repair. Back the screws out in stages rather than one at a time, keep them in order, and put a trace of thread locker on reassembly so the pivot tension you settled on is the tension you keep.

How it compares to a fixed grip knife

If a folder this size appeals, it is worth understanding what you gain and lose against a purpose-shaped fixed blade like the Shadowstone D2 karambit. For the wider question of what to actually carry day to day, how to choose an EDC knife is the place to start, and which oil to use on a knife settles the pivot question.

FAQs

Is 8.3 inches the open length? Yes. The specification above lists blade and handle separately.

Can I take it apart? Yes, and doing so does not void the warranty.

Does leather come with it? Yes, a hand-stitched carry sheath, as the table records.
