Description

Athena is the smallest folder we build in this family: a 6-inch titanium-framed knife with a padauk wood inlay and a green stone set into the frame face.

Overall length 6 inches
Steel 1095 + 15N20 Damascus, 352 layers
Handle Titanium frame with inlaid paddock wood
Hardness 58–60 HRC, oil tempered
Pattern Wind & Mix twist Fire pattern feather rain drop ladder Damascus Blade
Included Hand-stitched leather sheath

Sized for: a hand that finds most folders too big. The frame is bright polished metal with the wood inlaid flush into an oval recess, so there are no scales standing proud and nothing to catch. Filework runs down the spine of the closed knife. It disappears in a coat pocket and still opens to a usable blade.

Care: the titanium frame is essentially maintenance free; it will pick up fine scratches with carry and that is the material behaving normally. The padauk inlay is an oily tropical hardwood that darkens from orange toward deep red with light exposure, which is expected and not a fault. Wax it occasionally. Frame or no frame, the forged steel still wants drying and a film of oil after use.

Small does not mean less made

A smaller knife is harder, not easier. Every tolerance is the same size it would be on a big knife but there is less material to hide behind, so a poorly fitted inlay or an off-center blade is immediately obvious. Getting a stone flush into a polished metal frame at this scale is the fussiest part of the build. The recess has to be cut to the stone rather than the stone ground to the recess, because a set stone that sits even slightly proud will catch a pocket lining and eventually work loose. On a larger knife there is room to fudge it. Here there is not.

Choosing a knife that fits your hand

Handle length matters more than blade length for comfort, and most people buy too large because a big knife photographs better. We wrote choosing a knife for smaller hands after too many exchanges that came down to grip circumference rather than anything about the steel.

Wood inside metal

Inlaying wood into a metal frame gives you warmth where your fingers land and rigidity everywhere else, which is a better combination than either material alone. It also means the wood is protected on all four edges instead of being the outermost surface taking every knock. If you want that idea in a modern synthetic instead, the Rosewater 14C28N folder uses micarta, and Damascus knife care and sharpening covers upkeep on the blade either way.

FAQs

Is the box included? Yes, this model ships in a wooden box.

Will the wood keep changing color? It darkens for the first year or so, then settles.
