Description

The Sirius is a forged Damascus band with a single brass line running around it. The layers sit at a diagonal, so the pattern climbs around the ring rather than circling it flat, and the same banding continues on the inside face where nobody but you will see it.

Steel 1095 + 15N20 Damascus, 352 layers
Hardness 58–60 HRC, oil tempered
Pattern Twist Damascus; no two rings identical

Who wears one: people who want a wedding band or a daily ring that does not look like everyone else’s. It is a US size 12, cut wide and domed rather than flat, which is the profile that sits most comfortably on a larger hand because there are no square edges pressing into the fingers either side.

How forged steel behaves on a hand

Steel is harder than gold or silver, which changes what daily wear does to it. It will not deform out of round if you catch it in a door, and it will not develop the soft rounded scratches a precious metal band picks up in the first month. Instead it takes fine bright scuffs on the high points of the dome, and over a year those blend into a low even sheen. Most owners find the ring looks better after a year than it did new. It cannot be resized either: cutting and stretching a pattern-welded band destroys the layer structure, so size matters at purchase.

The brass inlay

A single band of brass is set into a channel cut around the circumference, sitting slightly off-center rather than down the middle. Brass is a living finish. Against skin it will darken from bright yellow toward a deeper bronze over a few weeks, and it will brighten again in the places that rub against a pocket or a steering wheel. That change is the point of a brass inlay.

Contrast comes from the etch

The dark and light banding is not plating or coating. The ring is etched so that one of the two steels in the weld sits fractionally lower and reads dark, while the other stays proud and bright. It goes through the metal, so a scratch does not expose a different color underneath.

Care: the enemy of a steel ring is standing moisture, not impact. Take it off before swimming, before long showers and before anything that leaves it wet under a glove. Dry it properly if it does get soaked, including the inside face, where water sits against skin and stays. Keep it away from chlorine and from household bleach. Skip jewelry dips and ultrasonic cleaners, which can lighten the etched contrast; warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth is all it needs. If the surface ever looks flat, a jeweler can re-etch it.

Questions about this ring

Will it turn my finger green? The brass line can leave a faint mark on some people, especially in hot weather. It washes off and it is harmless.

How do I know the pattern is genuine? Real pattern welding shows on the inside and the edges, not only the top face. Telling real Damascus from a printed pattern covers what to check.

Can it rust? Left wet, a forged Damascus band can spot. Do Damascus knives rust explains the mechanism and the fix. For a different look in the same size, the Betelgeuse mokume ring uses mixed metals instead of a brass inlay.
