Description

Look at the blade before anything else. Four holes drilled through the flat, a row of file cuts stepping down the spine, and a long clip that runs most of the way to the point. There is more shaping here than a balisong usually gets.

Overall length 9.1 inches
Blade length 4.4 inches
Handle length 4.7 inches
Steel High carbon steel
Hardness 58–60 HRC, oil tempered
Handle – Stainless Steel with high grains rose wood and walnut wood

Works for: flippers who want the look of a worked blade in a full-size 9.1 inch package. The 4.4 inch clip point does ordinary cutting perfectly well, but the reason to own this one is the detailing.

Why the holes are there

Drilling the flat takes weight out of the blade without touching the edge or the spine thickness. Less blade weight means the knife rotates faster and stops where you put it, which matters more in a balisong than in almost any other knife. It also changes the sound. The tradeoff is a little less mass behind a cut, which you will never notice unless you are cutting rope for a living.

Rosewood and walnut in a steel channel

Two woods, one build. Rosewood runs darker with a red cast; walnut is browner and shows more open figure. Both are set into stainless channel handles and pinned, and both will darken where your fingers rest. The steel around them means the handle survives being dropped on tile, which is the usual end of a wood-only balisong. Our balisong construction guide explains why the channel matters.

A clip point on a balisong

The clip thins the last third of the blade and drops the point below the spine line, which makes it good at piercing and at getting into tight corners. It also means the tip is thinner than the rest of the blade, so it is the part that bends if you pry with it. Do not pry with it. The file cuts on the spine are a thumb rest, not a saw.

Keeping it clean: Dry the blade after handling, and get a cloth through the drilled holes, where water beads and sits. The bare steel wants a thin coat of oil if the knife is going away for a while. Wood inserts need nothing; a fingertip of oil once a year keeps the color even. Sharpen on a stone rather than a pull-through, which will wreck the clip. There is a full method in sharpening on a whetstone.

Quick answers

Do I get rosewood or walnut? Both woods appear on this model and the pairing varies by piece. If you have a strong preference, say so in the order notes and we will match it if stock allows.

Is the blade edge sharp on arrival? Yes, fully sharpened. If you are learning to flip, most people buy a trainer alongside.

Why pick this over the D2 build? D2 holds an edge longer and asks more of your stone. The D2 balisong with wood inserts is the harder-wearing build; this one is easier to bring back to sharp.
