Description
The Timber Fang is our take on the Tom Brown tracker — the same blunt, purposeful outline the original made famous, cut from quarter-inch D2 tool steel and stone washed to a matte grey that stops throwing light the second you step into the treeline. The walnut scales are where it earns its name: open grain, warm under the hand, and darker every season you carry it.

Built for: bushcraft, survival training, and camp work where one knife has to do four jobs. The forward belly chops and skins, the straight section behind it handles feather sticks and fine carving, and the sawback spine notches wood and scrapes a ferro rod. Quarter-inch stock means you can baton with it without flinching.
Care: D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel — it holds an edge far longer than most stainless, but it is not rust-proof. Wipe the blade dry after use, run a light coat of mineral oil over it monthly, and store the knife outside the leather sheath. The stone washed finish hides scratches and patina beautifully, so normal use only makes it look better.
FAQs
What is a Tom Brown style tracker knife? It is the multi-purpose survival profile popularised by tracker and survival instructor Tom Brown Jr. — a deep chopping belly up front, a straight utility section behind it, and a sawback spine, all on one thick blade. The idea is one knife that covers chopping, carving, skinning and fire prep. This is our handmade interpretation of that design, not a licensed original.
Is D2 steel good for a tracker knife? Yes — D2 runs around 60 HRC with high chromium and carbide content, so it takes hard use and holds a working edge much longer than 1095 or 440C. It is the standard choice for thick, hard-working fixed blades.
