Eight point nine ounces, and why
Most 8 inch knives come in around five ounces. This one is nearly nine, and the weight comes from a thick blade, a solid front bolster and a metal butt cap. What that buys you is a knife that does not flex and does not feel nervous under load. What it costs you is all-day carry comfort — you will know it is on your belt. Decide which of those matters more for how you actually hunt. For a lighter alternative in the same series, the Blue Bone runs a 3.6 inch blade; at the other extreme, the UL-06 Anaconda is a full bowie.
The handle is shorter than the blade
3.6 inches of handle behind 4.4 inches of blade is a forward-weighted layout, and the finger scallops cut into the scales are what makes it work. They index your grip in one position instead of letting your hand slide forward under a hard push cut. If you have large hands you will find it a three-finger-plus-thumb grip rather than a full fist, which is normal for this style and is why the butt cap flares.
Bone scales with dark liners
The scales are cream-colored natural bone over thin dark liners, pinned through the tang and bookended by a polished bolster and cap. The liners are the detail worth looking for — a thin dark line separating pale bone from bright metal, which is a fitting step rather than a decoration and takes an extra pass on the surface grinder to get flush.
Care: wash and dry the whole knife after use, and give the seams where bone meets metal more attention than the flats, since that is where water sits and where a stain starts. Store it dry and out of the leather sheath — a sheath is for carrying, not keeping, and the leather will hold damp against the bolster all winter if you let it. Our storage guide covers the details. Bone dislikes extremes: keep it out of long soaks, out of hot cars, and wipe it with a little mineral oil once or twice a year.
