Balance and weight
Most of what makes a pen pleasant to write with is where its mass sits. Solid brass puts real weight low, down at the grip, so the pen rests against the web of your hand instead of needing to be held up against it. You end up gripping more lightly, and that is the actual reason a heavy pen is less tiring over a full page than a plastic one. The cap posts on the back if you want the balance further rearward; leave it off and the pen is nose-heavy and quick.
The knurling
The grip section is cut with a diamond knurl, a machining operation rather than a molded texture. Under a fingertip it gives a positive hold without being abrasive, and it works exactly as well when your hands are dry, cold or slightly damp. It also hides fingerprints, which on a bright metal barrel matters more than you would expect.
What brass does over time
Brass is not a stable color and is not meant to be. It leaves here bright, goes gold, then amber, then a deep brown where your fingers rest most often. That patina is uneven by nature and it is a record of use rather than a fault. If you would rather have it bright, a minute with polish on a soft cloth takes it back to where it started, and you can do that as often as you like. The faceted flats come up easily; the knurled section holds its darker tone, which most owners end up preferring.

It arrives in a black presentation sleeve, and it is a gift that does not require the recipient to already be interested in anything in particular. Everybody writes something down. The square barrel also means it will not roll off a desk, which sounds like a trivial detail until you have watched a round pen do exactly that onto a tile floor.
