What the bone does over the years

Bone is dense and close grained, and it takes a polish that resin never quite imitates. It absorbs a little oil from your fingers, so after a year of regular handling the cream deepens half a shade and warms up. That is the material settling in, not wearing out. The trade is brittleness at the corners. Drop this on a concrete floor and a scale can chip where synthetic scales would only scuff, so learn your aerials over a rug.

Living with D2

D2 carries enough chromium to shrug off humid weather far better than a plain carbon blade, without being properly stainless. It will carry a working edge through weeks of light cutting. What you pay for that is time at the stone: the same hard carbides that resist wear also resist abrasive, so plan on more strokes and a coarser grit than a soft steel would need.
