Included Hand-stitched leather sheath

Built for: people who want something on the wall that would still work if it came down. The recurved profile is a display shape with genuine slicing ability behind it, and at ten and a half ounces it has the mass to drive a cut.

The upswept point, honestly assessed

An upswept Persian shape lifts the tip above the line of the handle. That is excellent for slicing draws and for skinning, where the belly does the work and the point stays clear of what you do not want to open. It is bad for anything needing a precise stab, and bad for scraping, because there is no straight section of edge to bear down on. It also makes sharpening fussier: you have to roll the blade through the curve on a stone rather than pushing it straight.

Stag and turquoise together

Stag is the least uniform material we use. Every antler section has its own crown texture, its own color and its own slight asymmetry, so two of these will never match. Turquoise adds a second variable, because real stone has veining and small inclusions and no matrix pattern repeats. For most buyers that is the appeal. For a few it is a disappointment. If you want two identical knives for a matched pair, natural materials cannot give you that.

What the weight tells you

Ten and a half ounces is a lot inside nine inches, and it is carried forward in the blade rather than back in the handle. In practice the knife wants to keep moving once a cut is started: good for slicing, tiring over long detail work, and heavy enough on a belt that you will choose your days. Set it beside a four-ounce karambit and you can feel the full spread of what a fixed blade can weigh.

Care: the blade is the easy part. Dry it and 440C is content. Stag and turquoise are what need thought. Antler is porous and absorbs whatever it sits in, so keep solvents away and never soak it; a damp cloth followed by a dry one is enough. Turquoise is softer than people expect and grit trapped in a cleaning rag will scratch it, so use something clean. Both hate heat. A hot car will shrink antler away from its fittings and dull the stone’s surface. There is more on the steel in our 440C write-up.

FAQs

Is the turquoise real stone? Yes, and that is exactly why it varies. Stabilized natural turquoise behaves like stone rather than resin: harder than plastic, more brittle, and every piece its own color.

Why does the listing title mention both 440C and Damascus? The title carries keywords from an older catalog. Trust the spec table above. This blade is 440C stainless.

Will the antler crack? It can, over decades, if it is repeatedly dried and rewetted. Kept indoors at ordinary humidity it will simply darken and feel better in the hand each year.

I have now purchased my sixth Black Mamba knife- 5 Persian Yumas/ 1 Kabar and more planned in the future. As a collector, I can appreciate a high quality, well constructed knife. These knives have these qualities but along with it beauty as well. If you are a hunter, these knives are extremely sharp and most likely be great for skinning. If you are a collector, just looking at these knives brings to mind works of art. The Damascus is flawless. The spacers in the handles are perfectly matched and are absolutely flawless along with the stag. The knives fit perfectly in your hand- buy one and you can easily see this. They would also make an impressive side arm as the sheaths are high quality as well. Contact Mark- you can’t go wrong buying one of these beauties
