The green reads darker than photographs suggest
This is a deep forest tone that goes nearly black indoors and only shows its colour when you take it outside. Sheets of pakkawood are laid up individually before pressing, so the band pattern across your scales, meaning where the dark veneer lines fall and how wide each one runs, belongs to the piece you receive rather than to the listing photo. Buyers who want a knife that does not announce itself tend to choose this over the red one; buyers shopping for a present usually go the other way.
A three-inch blade is a maintenance advantage
There is simply less edge to sharpen. That sounds trivial and it is not, because a short blade takes roughly a third of the stone passes a kitchen knife needs, and that is the difference between a five-minute job on a Sunday and never getting around to it. Both steels in the billet are simple and low in carbides, so they take a keen edge fast and give it up gracefully. Neither is stainless, so the same session should end with a dry cloth and a drop of oil on the pivot and the flats.
What it is not
This is not a prying tool and it is not a batoning blade. A folding knife concentrates every sideways load into one pivot pin, and steel forged this hard is more likely to chip than bend if you twist it mid-cut. Keep it slicing. Which blade profile suits which job is a useful sanity check before you commit, and if colour is the only thing holding you back, the red pakkawood Crimson Strike is otherwise identical.
The copper line
The warm seam running the length of the blade is copper, laid into the stack before the billet was drawn out. It is decorative, it is soft, and it tarnishes on its own schedule, going from bright to russet to a settled brown depending on how much you handle the knife. Nothing about that affects how it cuts. It does mean the blade you unwrap and the blade you own two years later are recognisably different objects, which is the point of buying forged steel rather than stamped.
In the hand
Closed, it is a hair over three and a half inches and disappears against a set of keys. Open, the balance sits just behind the bolster, which keeps the point light and controllable for the fiddly jobs a small folder actually gets asked to do. There is a thumb notch on the spine, a fuller down the flat, and a lanyard hole through the butt for anyone who prefers a fob. The bevel is finished by hand and stropped before it goes in the box.
Sheath, engraving and where it is built
A stitched leather belt pouch comes with it, cut and sewn for this frame. Laser engraving is available before checkout if you want a name, a date or a short line on the flat. Forging, grinding, heat treatment, fit-up and the final edge all happen at our Memphis bench, and the knife carries a lifetime warranty against anything we got wrong in the making of it.
